Anu’s Mittens: Fin

I stayed up perhaps a bit too late last night, but finished the mittens.

“Anu’s Mittens” from Nancy Bush’s “Folk Knitting in Estonia”
Rowan RYC Cashsoft 4 Ply (57% wool, 33% microfiber, 10% cashmere)
Colors 429 (Redwood) and 433 (Cream)
US 0 (2.0mm) Knitpicks Harmony dpns
The “private side,” for those who like such things.

This was a great pattern, easy to memorize but fun and soothing at the same time. While the yarn was maybe not the best pick for stranded knitting (it’s very soft and slippery!) it makes an extremely luxurious pair of mittens.

I’m working on another pair of luxury-fiber hand coverings.

This is a pair of the Wine and Roses Mitts from the 2006 issue of Interweave Knits, knit in some of my own handspun bombyx silk (dyed by Chasing Rainbows, “Moody Blues,” if you want to know.) They’ve been patiently waiting their return to the needles for some time now.

I’m wrapping and shipping gifts out today, so I gathered all the knitties I’ve finished so far together for a group photo.

Not so bad for my third Christmas as a Knitter, eh?

All for now!

  1. Woo hoo! great job, Loribird! I love those mitts and have been wanting to make some out of handspun as well….of course, now that the holiday knitting is inthe ‘crunch’ period – I think of January and selfishly knitting WHATEVER I WANT pretty much every day!

  2. I *love* those fingerless mits, they are gorgeous! And the Anu’s are charming. But what really knocks my socks off is that you are only knitting for 3 years?! Do you sleep? I must be the biggest ADD knitter.Excellent work, Loribird.

  3. I can’t believe you’ve knit so much for Christmas! You are so dedicated! You make me want to plan early for next year, but I’m probably too grinchy to actually do so.And those mittens, just perfect.

  4. “Not Bad”– sheesh! That’s AWESOME! Congrats on so many finished handmade gifts! I pretty much decided that no one but immediate family was getting hand-knits this year but then my wrist injury put a damper on that.. maybe next year.. lol.

  5. Holy Cow! I cannot believe all the gifts you’ve gotten knitted up! I am in serious awe. All I’ve got done is a pair of gloves. I’m such a slacker!I love those red and white mittens. Just beautiful. 🙂

  6. You are an amazing knitter! I have been knitting for over 30 years and here you have a whole arsenal of gifts in your third year, amazing! You are truly gifted and your friends and family are very lucky. I love your Anu Mittens and have been thinking of more Wine and Roses Mitts, too. Your hand-dyed yarn is beautiful.
